Aims and scope

Design and Artificial Intelligence (DAAI) is a peer-reviewed international journal dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary research at the intersection of design and artificial intelligence (AI). The goal of DAAI is to serve as a leading platform of scholarly exchange and innovation in the integration of design and artificial intelligence through a multidisciplinary approach.

The journal aims to:

facilitate research that bridges the gap between the design and artificial intelligence;

promote the development and application of innovative AI technologies and methodologies in design contexts;

explore the implications of AI on new design theories, practices and education;

investigate human-computer (AI) interaction paradigms emerging from the integration of AI in design processes; and encourage critical discourse on the ethical, social, and cultural impacts of AI-driven design.

Scope

DAAI welcomes original research articles, review papers, case studies and theoretical frameworks that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in this rapidly evolving field. The journal seeks submissions from researchers, practitioners and educators working in areas including, but not limited to, artificial intelligence, design theory and practice, and human-computer interaction.

Language

Authors should write in good, standard English. Authors may use either American English (preferred) or British English, but not a mixture of these.

Authors, who feel their English language manuscript may require editing to eliminate possible grammatical or spelling errors and to conform to correct scientific English, may wish to use the English Language Editing service available from Elsevier's Author Services.

Article types

Design and Artificial Intelligence publishes several types of articles (see below). Usually, a manuscript contains 5,000-8,000 words, maximum 12,000 words (excluding footnotes, references, tables, and appendixes).

Original Research Articles

We welcome original scholarly research papers that present rigorous studies to advance the knowledge of design and artificial intelligence. Papers should appeal to a diverse readership both in design and artificial intelligence domains and offer insights that enhance people’s comprehension of these two disciplines or push the boundaries of practical applications.

Case Studies

Case Study papers should follow the guidelines above on research papers, demonstrating the same level of scholarship, but be more focused around a particular case about design and artificial intelligence. Case studies is supposed to provide new insights or knowledge about the application of design and artificial intelligence and be based in appropriate theory and literature, including that previously published in the journal.

Review Articles

Literature review papers should be based on a comprehensive, critical, and conceptually novel analysis of existing literature in a cognate sub-field within the scope of the journal outlined above, and contributing to new understandings of the body of design and artificial intelligence knowledge. Literature review papers should be potentially useful for researchers in future theoretical and empirical work.
