      Author Guidelines

      【官网信息】

      Scope of the Journal

Photon Science publishes cutting-edge photon-based scientific research and technical innovations.

      Photon

Science is a highly interdisciplinary journal focusing on, but not

limited to, scientific studies of chemical transformation and energy

materials based on photon, electron, and neutron facilities. The word

“photon” here is representative of particles in modern scientific

      facilities.

      Photon

Science also reports breakthroughs in instrumentation, methodology, and

big-data research with demonstrations or potential for chemistry and

      materials science.

More information can be found here.

Correspondence should be addressed to the Editor-in-Chief at eic@photonsci.acs.org.

      Manuscript Types

      Article

      Articles

should report a significant advance in the field of photon science,

being characterized by the editor and referees as in the top 10% of

advances in the field. Articles must exhibit high scientific quality,

originality, clarity, significance, and conceptual novelty.

      Articles

should describe the research concisely and accurately. While there are

no page length restrictions, a suggested guideline is around 7,000

words, including the abstract, main text, tables, and legends (excluding

References and Supporting Information). References should accurately

represent previous theoretical and practical research that has guided

the development of the hypothesis and experimental aspects of the work

reported. The abstract should be limited to 300 words, summarizing the

research context, key results, and conclusions. No references may be

cited in the abstract, and abbreviations and acronyms should not be

introduced unless essential. Additionally, articles should include 5-10

lowercase keywords and a graphical TOC entry to visually highlight the

      importance of the research outcomes.

      Communication

      Communications

are restricted to reports of unusual urgency, timeliness, significance,

and novelty with respect to photon science. A brief statement

explaining how the manuscript meets the criteria of urgency should be

included in the author’s cover letter.

      A

Communication must convey the scientific findings concisely in

abstract, main text, and graphical elements as determined by word count

not exceeding 2200 words, including titles/footnotes/captions of

approximately five graphics (typically 2 inches long in a single

column). References are not included in word count but should be up to

50 references. All graphics and tables must be placed near the point of

first mention in the text of the manuscript. Long notes are not

permitted in the References section; information not directly germane to

the Communication can be included as Supporting Information.

      Review

      Reviews

are comprehensive, critical examinations of a selected topic, with a

focus on forward looking to future research opportunities. Reviews are

expected to critically evaluate published work of multiple,

international groups in a field or across disciplines; be logically

organized; be of general interest to the journal readership; and make

the material more easily accessible to those not expert in the area

through clear text and figures. Reviews should lay out the challenges

and opportunities that lie ahead and provide critical discussions that

can help move the field forward. Reviews should contain an abstract (≤

300 words), a graphical TOC entry, and appropriate references. The use

of graphics to illustrate key concepts within the text is strongly

      encouraged.

      A

Review should generally not exceed 12,000 words including the abstract,

main text, tables, and legends, excluding references. Most Reviews are

expected to be substantially shorter in length, although the length

should be ultimately dictated by the subject matter. If necessary, a

vocabulary section can be provided, defining 5-7 terms from the text in

      one or two sentences.

      Reviews

are submitted in response to an invitation from the Editor or the

author’s proposal. Authors interested in submitting a Review are

strongly encouraged to contact the Editors prior to manuscript

preparation and submission, to seek conditional approval of the proposed

topic. A single document consisting of the following information should

be sent to the Editor-in-Chief (eic@photonsci.acs.org) for

      consideration.

      Proposed title

Corresponding author names, affiliations, and websites

A short (~400 words) description of the focused topic

A list of 5-10 lead references

      A

list of recent review articles published on this topic and an

explanation of how the proposed review will differ in focus and advance

      the literature on the subject.

      Perspective

      Perspectives

are brief personal accounts of a field or area by one or a small team

of authors. Perspective authors are asked to assess the status of the

field with an emphasis toward identifying key recent advances, critical

challenges for the field, and notable opportunities going forward.

Perspective can also elaborate on important unanswered questions and

approaches being taken to address them. Perspectives are focused rather

than comprehensive. The primary goal of a Perspective is to inspire and

help direct future research efforts. Perspective may not exceed 5,000

words including the abstract (<300 words), main text, and graphical

elements, up to 50 references that demonstrate the full range of

activities in the field. A TOC graphic is required for this type of

      manuscript.

      Perspectives

are submitted in response to an invitation from the Editor or the

author’s proposal. Authors interested in contributing a Perspective are

strongly encouraged to contact the Editors prior to manuscript

preparation and submission, to seek conditional approval of the proposed

topic. A single document consisting of the following information should

be sent to the Editor-in-Chief (eic@photonsci.acs.org) for

      consideration.

      Proposed title

Corresponding Author names, affiliations, and websites

A short (~400 words) description of the focused topic

A list of 5-10 lead references

      A

list of recent review/perspective articles published on this topic and

an explanation of how the proposed perspective will differ in focus and

advance the literature on the subject.

      Methods/Protocols

      Methods/Protocols

are articles describing methods and protocols of broad interest to the

photon science community. The goal of this manuscript is to provide

photon science researchers with detailed, actionable experimental

protocols that can serve as valuable references, helping them advance

their research and ensuring consistent, high-quality results across the

field. These Methods/Protocols manuscripts will start with a short

review of the area, followed by detailed descriptions of procedures,

helpful insights, and warnings about potential pitfalls and safety

concerns. There is no set length, and authors are encouraged to include

videos and photographs of experiments and apparatus in the Supplementary

Information, as well as additional details to ensure reproducibility.
