Instructions for Authors

Note: These instructions comply with those formulated by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors. For further details, authors should consult the “Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals" at www.icmje.org.

The Journal is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) which aims to define best practice in the ethics of scientific publishing. COPE has established a number of guidelines as part of a set of Core Practices (www.publicationethics.org).

Appeals on editorial decisions should be sent to the Editor. Complaints related to how your paper was processed during peer-review and not resolved by the Editor, should be referred to the person named as publisher in "About the Journal" under "Journal Info" contacts (http://journals.lww.com/bpmonitoring/Pages/aboutthejournal.aspx) or if unsatisfied to COPE (www.publicationethics.org).

This Journal allows authors to choose an Open Access option for their published article on payment of a fee. See the Open Access section below.

SCOPE

Blood Pressure Monitoring is devoted to original research in blood pressure measurement and blood pressure variability. It includes device technology, analytic methodology of blood pressure over time and its variability, clinical trials —including, but not limited to, pharmacology — involving blood pressure monitoring, blood pressure reactivity, patient evaluation, and outcomes and effectiveness research.

SUBMISSIONS

Authors should submit their manuscripts through the web-based tracking system at http://www.editorialmanager.com/bpmj. The site contains instructions and advice on how to use the system. Authors should NOT in addition then post a hard copy submission to the editorial office.

Double spacing should be used throughout the manuscript, which should include the following sections, each starting on a separate page: title page, abstract and keywords, text, acknowledgements, references, individual tables and captions. Margins should be not less than 3 cm. All lines and pages should be numbered consecutively, beginning with the Title Page. The page number should be placed in the top right-hand corner of each page and line numbers on the left side of the page. Abbreviations should be defined on their first appearance in the text; those not accepted by international bodies should be avoided.

Authors are invited to list up to four potential reviewers, including their full addresses, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail addresses.

Submitted articles are peer-reviewed by the editor and/or other editors and selected reviewers.

Non-native speakers of English: Authors who are not native speakers of English and require help in writing an article in English are encouraged to seek assistance from a qualified colleague or consider using a language service in preparing a manuscript submission. Please note that the use of this or other services are at the author's own expense and risk, and independent from the editorial processes of this journal, and does not guarantee that an article will be accepted for publication.

REVISED SUBMISSIONS

Revised submissions should include a separate manuscript document that contains tracked changes and clearly-marked edits. These edits should detail the changes made in the manuscript during the revision process.

Article Types

Original Studies: These are regular (original manuscripts) scientific contributions. Manuscripts should not exceed 6000 words and have a total of 6 tables and/or figures. Each figure may contain a maximum of 4 panels (parts labelled A, B, C, D). Additional appendices and graphics may be submitted as supplemental digital content. The word count includes all text in the manuscript beginning with the title page and ending with the last reference. It does not include supplemental digital content.
