JOURNAL OF MUSCLE RESEARCH AND CELL MOTILITY

    Instructions for Authors

    Types of papers

    Research papers:

Papers may be as short or as long as the findings justify but should be complete; preliminary findings will not normally be accepted. Halftone illustrations must be grouped into plates, the number of which should be related to the extent and significance of the observations. Although no arbitrary limits on the number of plates are set, only five free plates will be allowed and plates in excess of this number will be charged to the authors. Colour plates will also be charged to the Authors.

    Sequence papers:

Papers which discuss unique or comparative data on proteins of interest within the broad field of the Journal, may be submitted provided that the separate conditions stated in Volume 12 page 1 are met. Sequence papers will also normally be limited to four sides of the Journal.

    Reviews:

The purpose of reviews will be to summarize and analyse topics of current interest and progress; a personal viewpoint is encouraged while a historical one is not. There are no strict limits on the length of reviews or their illustration but 8000 words of text (exclusive of bibliography) plus two figures or tables is often found to be satisfactory to both author and reader.

    News and Views:

These brief reviews are intended to highlight and discuss new data and ideas, not necessarily of the author but certainly discussed from his/her point of view. News and Views will be treated as Fast Stream publications. They will be limited to four sides of the journal, i.e. 3500 words including bibliography and figures (allow 250 words for a simple figure).

    Correspondence:

Comment on papers published in the Journal can be submitted in the form of scientific correspondence. Such letters should fit one side of the Journal (i.e. 800 words). Correspondence will be published with the original author's response to the comment, which must fit the same length restriction. Publication of both comment and response are dependent on editorial approval.

    Rapid Communications:

Rapid communications are published in print and online, and provide a particularly fast PUBLICATION PROCESS i.e. within 7 days for research papers of exceptional importance. The manuscripts will also be handled in an accelerated way in the print phase, with a time from submission to online publication of 26-28 days if no revisions are required. Manuscripts requiring more than minor revision will be rejected, but can enter the regular PUBLISHING stream at the discretion of the editors with their original submission date.

The scope of the manuscripts can be either essentially complete research work reporting on definite observations, or rigorous work reporting seminal observations that are likely to lead to a paradigm shift or open up new research perspectives. Text limit under 2,500 words. No more than 4 display items (4 figures and/or tables).

    Manuscripts reporting Proteomic data:

The proteomics guidelines detailed in the following two publications must be followed. Papers not adhering to these guidelines will be rejected without review.

1.) Carr S. et al: The need for guidelines in publication of peptide and protein identification data: Working Group on Publication Guidelines for Peptide and Protein Identification Data. Mol Cell Proteomics. 2004 Jun;3(6):531-3.

2.) Bradshaw RA, Burlingame AL, Carr S, Aebersold R.: Reporting protein identification data: the next generation of guidelines. Mol Cell Proteomics. 2006 May;5(5):787-8.

    Manuscript Submission

Submission of a manuscript implies: that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities tacitly or explicitly at the institute where the work has been carried out. The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.

    Permissions

Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.

    Online Submission

Please follow the hyperlink Submit manuscript on the right and upload all of your manuscript files following the instructions given on the screen.

Please ensure you provide all relevant editable source files. Failing to submit these source files might cause unnecessary delays in the review and production process.

    Additional remark Manuscript Submission

Submissions must be accompanied by a submission letter explaining why the manuscript is suitable for publication in the Journal of Muscle Research and Cell Motility. Authors should provide up to 5 potential referees with their names, addresses and e-mail addresses, of which at least two should be from the Editorial Board. Authors may exclude up to 3 reviewers with a one-sentence explanation. The editors retain the sole right to decide whether or not the suggested reviewers are used.
