Instructions for Authors (last update: March 29, 2019)

(1) Scope

Nordic Pulp & Paper Research Journal (NPPRJ) is a quarterly, international scientific journal covering to-date science and technology research in the areas of wood-based biomass:

• Pulp and paper: products and processes

• Wood constituents: characterization and nanotechnologies

• Bio-refining, recovery and energy issues

• Utilization of side-streams from pulping processes

• Novel fibre-based, sustainable and smart materials.

(2) Editorial policy

General: NPPRJ publishes full research aricles and review articles. Full research articles should present new significant results that have not been previously published. Review articles should summarize recent advances in the fields they cover with a critical selection of references. Manuscripts are independently reviewed by peers selected by the editors.The editors and the publisher are committed to high quality standards and rapid handling of the peer review and publication processes.

Decisions are reached as quickly as possible. NPPRJ aspires to notify authors within six weeks from submission date.

Cover letter: Each manuscript must be accompanied by a cover letter containing abrief statement by the authors as to the focus, objective, importance/relevance and novelty/innovation of their article as compared to the state of the art.

Reviewers: The authors may provide the title, full name, institution, country and email address of up to three potential reviewers. Reviewers indicated by the authors should be of institutions and nationality different from those of any of the authors.

Unpublished material: Submission of a manuscript to NPPRJ implies that the work described is not copyrighted, published or submitted elsewhere, except in abstract form.

Conflict of interests: When authors submit a manuscript, they are responsible for recognizing and disclosing financial and/or other conflicts of interest that might bias their work and/or could inappropriately influence his/her judgment. In the manuscripts, authors must list all funding sources and explicitly explain whether or not they have any conflict of interests regarding the submission.

Reproduction of published material: It is the authors’ responsibility to obtain permission to reproduce original or modified material that has been previously published. Please consult with the Copyright Clearance Center (http://www.copyright.com)

Copyright: Manuscripts are accepted on condition of transfer of copyright (for U.S. government employees: to the extent transferable) to NPPRJ. Once the manuscript is accepted, it may not be published elsewhere without the consent of the copyright holders.

(3) Preparation of manuscripts (research articles)

(3.1) General format

Technical requirements: The main textbody incl. references list and figure captions should be submitted in WORD. Papers written in LaTeX should provide all source

files in a zip file and accompany the zip with a referencing PDF. Tables should be submitted in a separate file in WORD. Figures should be submitted in jpg or png format: line drawings with a resolution of 1200 dpi, photos with a resolution of 300 dpi. Formatting should be kept to a minimum. Do not create headers or footers, page breaks or arrange your text with the space key. Include page numbers. Please avoid footnotes in the text, use parentheses instead.

Language: Manuscripts must be written in clear and concise English. Non-native authors who are not fully fluent in idiomatic English should please have their text proofread by a native English speaker prior to submission. Either American or British spelling may be used and should be consistently applied throughout the manuscript.

Extensive use of not generally accepted acronyms should be avoided.
