L’Esprit Createur welcomes submissions of articles and book reviews, as well as proposals for special issues.

Articles

L’Esprit Createur publishes articles in the field of French and Francophone Studies. The journal is particularly interested in contributions that offer innovative analytic or interpretive perspectives.

If you are interested in submitting an article for consideration for an announced upcoming issue, contact the Editors by email at esprit@umn.edu. Articles may be in English or French. Articles should be double-spaced and should consist of no more than 6,000 words including epigraphs, quotations, and footnotes.

Articles may be submitted as an email attachment or may be sent by mail to The Editors, L’Esprit Créateur, Department of French and Italian, 314 Folwell Hall, University of Minnesota, 9 Pleasant Street SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455.

All articles submitted must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Guest Edited Issues

Each issue of L’Esprit Créateur is topic-based, focusing on a specific author, genre, critical issue or methodological approach. The aim of each special issue is to offer a focused and comprehensive investigation of a particular topic. Past issues have included "Race and the Aesthetic in French and Francophone Cultures," "Writing/Creating in the Feminine in Early Modern France," "Modernité du mythe, à partir de Philippe Lacoue-Labarthe,” “L’Esprit (dé)réglé : Literature, Science, and the Life of the Mind, 1700-1900,” "Haiti Beyond Commemorations,” “French Autopathography,” “Translingual Writing in French and Francophone Literature,” “Marie NDiaye," and "Cultural Exchange and Creative Identity: France/Asia in the Nineteenth and Early Twentieth Centuries."

Individuals interested in proposing a special issue and serving as Guest Editor should contact the Editors at esprit@umn.edu.

Book Reviews

The Editors welcome reviews of books in such areas as literary criticism and history, film and visual studies, critical theory, gender studies, cultural critique, and post-colonialism that relate to French and Francophone Studies. Reviews should be no longer than 500 words. Please contact the Editors at esprit@umn.edu before submitting reviews.
