Instructions for Authors

Scope

Israel Journal of Ecology & Evolution (IJEE) welcomes contributions in all areas of ecology and evolutionary biology, including high-quality original research and review papers that advance our knowledge and understanding of the function, diversity, abundance, distribution, and evolution of organisms. We give equal consideration to all submissions regardless of geography. Applied ecology problems, such as biological control and conservation biology, are welcome, particularly if they address conceptual problems. Theoretical papers are equally welcome. Preference is given to hypothesis-driven papers, and papers that are purely descriptive have a low probability of acceptance. Please note that papers will be rejected without review, if they do not fit the scope of the journal. Authors are entirely responsible for statements, whether fact or opinion. All papers are subject to peer review. We strive for a rapid review process. Authors may suggest competent referees for consideration by the editorial board.

Referees will remain anonymous unless they expressly request to be identified.

Ethical and Legal Conditions

The publication of a manuscript in a peer-reviewed work is expected to follow standards of ethical behavior for all parties involved in the act of publishing: authors, editors, and reviewers. Authors, editors, and reviewers should thoroughly acquaint themselves with Brill’s publication ethics, which may be downloaded here: brill.com/page/ethics/publication-ethics-cope-compliance.

OnlineSubmission

IJEE now uses online submission only via the Editorial Manager (EM) online submission system at: editorialmanager.com/tiee.

First-time users of EM need to register first. Go to the website and click on the "Register Now" link in the login menu. Enter the information requested. During registration, you can fill in your username and password. If you should forget your Username and Password, click on the "send login details" link in the login section, and enter your e-mail address exactly as you entered it when you registered. Your access codes will then be e-mailed to you.

Prior to submission, authors are encouraged to read the ‘Instructions for Authors’. When submitting via the website, you will be guided stepwise through the creation and uploading of the various files.

A revised document is uploaded the same way as the initial submission. The system automatically generates an electronic (PDF) proof, which is then used for reviewing purposes. All correspondence, including the editor’s request for revision and final decision, is sent by e-mail.

Authors also have the opportunity to suggest and oppose reviewers by submitting the names and (e-mail) addresses.

Submission Requirements

Length

General and research articles: 10,000 words or less; research reports: 5000 words; commentaries: 2000 words; book reviews: 500-2000 words; letters: 500 words.

Language

Manuscripts should be written in English; spelling should be consistent throughout.

Manuscript Structure

Double space the entire manuscript with wide margins on all sides. Do not justify right-hand margins.

Abstract & Keywords

Include an abstract (250 words maximum) and up to six keywords.

Headings

Headings are flush left.

The First Level Heading

The Second Level Heading

The Third Level Heading

Footnotes

Use footnotes, and not endnotes.

Text Citation

In the body of the text, use the author-date method of in-text citation: Surname, 2019. Et al.: If there are more than six authors, list the first six and then use et al. (and others). In the text, a work with more than six authors is cited as follows: (Surname et al., 2019)
