    About the Journal

    Food Additives & Contaminants: Part A is an international, peer-reviewed journal publishing high-quality, original research. Please see the journal's Aims & Scope for information about its focus and peer-review policy.

    Aims and scope

    Food Additives & Contaminants: Part A publishes on natural and man-made food additives and contaminants in food and the animal feed chain.  Food Additives & Contaminants: Part A is an affiliated journal of the International Society for Mycotoxicology.

    Food Additives & Contaminants: Part A aims to disseminate research on natural and man-made additives and contaminants in the food and animal feed chain.

    The journal covers the following topics related to food additives:

    Flavorings, pesticide and veterinary drug residues

    Environmental contaminants

    Plant toxins

    Mycotoxins

    Marine biotoxins

    Trace elements

    Food process contaminants

    Adulteration, authenticity and allergenicity of foods

    The development of novel foods and processes

    Animal feed where residues and contaminants can give rise to food safety concerns.

    Food Additives & Contaminants: Part A accepts original research articles and reviews.

    The journal operates a single-blind peer review policy. Authors can choose to publish gold open access in this journal.

    Please note that this journal only publishes manuscripts in English.

    Food Additives & Contaminants: Part A accepts the following types of article: original articles.

    Food Additives & Contaminants: Part A is an international, peer reviewed journal, publishing high-quality, original research. Please see the journal’s Aims & Scope for information about its focus and peer-review policy.

    Please note that this journal only publishes manuscripts in English.

    The Editor-in-Chief has the right to decline formal review of any manuscript when it is deemed that the manuscript:

    1. is outside the scope of the journal,

    2. lacks technical merit,

    3. is of insufficient novelty for an international readership,

    4. provides only marginal advances on previous published work,

    5. is poorly written in terms of clarity and English language.

    All manuscripts deemed suitable for review are assigned to one of the four Editors depending on the subject matter.

    All manuscripts are peer reviewed by a minimum of two independent referees – only manuscripts recommended for publication can be accepted.

    It usually takes at least 6-8 weeks from submission to receiving feedback depending on the efficiency of reviewers, although we endeavor to deal as quickly as possible with all submissions.

    After receiving comments from referees please follow instructions for responding to comments and submitting a revised manuscript. It is important that point-by-point by responses are provided by authors and a revised manuscript is uploaded indicating changes that have been made.

    Authors individual contributions to articles

    This journal does not have a specific policy requiring authors to provide a statement as to their individual contributions.  However, if desired such a statement crediting individual authors contributions can be published alongside any Acknowledgements.  Indications on the title page that ‘Authors made equal contributions’ does not provide sufficient attribution and if desired a full statement of individual contributions should be supplied.

    Open Access

    You have the option to publish open access in this journal via our Open Select publishing program.     Preparing Your Paper

    Structure

    Your paper should be compiled in the following order: title page; abstract; keywords; main text introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion; acknowledgments; declaration of interest statement; references; appendices (as appropriate); table(s) with caption(s) (on individual pages); figures; figure captions (as a list).

    Word Limits

    Please include a word count for your paper. There are no word limits for papers in this journal.

    Style Guidelines

    Please refer to these quick style guidelines when preparing your paper, rather than any published articles or a sample copy.

    Please use British (-ise) spelling style consistently throughout your manuscript.

    Please use single quotation marks, except where ‘a quotation is “within” a quotation’.

    Please note that long quotations should be indented without quotation marks.

    Your paper should be compiled in the following order: title page; abstract; keywords; main text, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion; acknowledgments; declaration of interest statement; references; appendices (as appropriate); table(s) with caption(s) (on individual pages); figures; figure captions (as a list). Authors should indicate if the paper is for a special issue. Authors should include continuous line numbering on their manuscript document. Authors should not include page numbering on their manuscript document, as page numbers are automatically added in the peer review system.

    There is no maximum or minimum length for submissions but the average is around seven to ten printed pages.
