Instructions for Authors

Types of Papers

Length of Articles

o Original Papers: up to 10 pages including tables and figures

o Review Articles: up to 10 pages including tables and figures

o Commentaries and Discussion Articles: up to 6 pages

o Book Reviews: up to 2 pages

o Conference Reports: up to 2 pages

If more space is needed, please split the paper in two or more parts to be published in subsequent issues. In this case, provide a short preamble that covers all parts, in addition to the individual abstracts.

The given article length is intended as a guideline. We don’t adhere to a strict page limit but would like to encourage you to keep your manuscript as short and concise as possible. If your manuscript turns out to be considerably longer than our guidelines recommend, please get in touch with us before submitting it.

How to calculate a layout page

Assuming that a manuscript page contains 1800 characters (30 lines with 60 characters maximum per line and 1.5 line spacing) about 2.5 manuscript pages result in one layout page (4300 characters with headings). So, for a 10 (layout) page article you can calculate 25 manuscript pages.

This calculation doesn’t include any figures or tables as they differ in size. Some tables consist of three lines, others of an entire page. So you should consider the number and size of any elements in addition to the text when calculating the length.

All papers – excluding Editorials, Letters to the Editor, Commentaries and Discussion Articles, Book Reviews, Conference Reports - are subject to peer-review by two experts.

When submitting your paper, you will be asked for at least two potential reviewers. Three suggested names are preferable.

To authors from non-English language countries:

To have the best possible pre-requisition for the review process, please ask a native speaker to check the quality of the English, before you submit the complete paper.

Manuscript Organization

The text should be page numbered to facilitate the reviewing process and should be structured as follows

Main Text

• Introduction

• Methods, including, if appropriate, an area description, quality assurances, etc.

• Results

• Discussion

• Conclusions (+ recommendations, optional)

• Acknowledgements (if appropriate)

• References

• Tables

• Figure Captions

• Figures

Manuscript Submission

Submission of a manuscript implies: that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities – tacitly or explicitly – at the institute where the work has been carried out. The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.

Permissions

Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.

Please ensure you provide all relevant editable source files. Failing to submit these source files might cause unnecessary delays in the review and production process.

Title Page

The title page should include:

A concise and informative title (if needed divide into main and sub title)

The name(s) of the author(s)

The affiliation(s) and address(es) of the author(s)

The e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers of the corresponding author

Abstract

For Research Articles please provide a structured abstract of maximum 400 words which should be divided into the following sections:

Purpose (stating the main purposes and research question: maximum 75 words)

Methods (maximum 125 words)

Results and discussion (maximum: 125 words)

Conclusions (maximum: 75 words) (+ recommendations, optional, maximum 75 words)

Keywords

For Research Articles please provide 6 to 8 keywords which can be used for indexing purposes.
