Instructions for Authors

Manuscript Submission

Submission of a manuscript implies: that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities – tacitly or explicitly – at the institute where the work has been carried out. The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.

Permissions

Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.

Article types

Short communication

This must report preliminary research findings that are novel and original, of immediate interest and are likely to have a high impact

Communications contain novel scientific work of such importance that rapid publication is desirable. Authors should briefly indicate in a covering letter the reasons why they feel that publication of their work as a Communication is justified.

Short communication manuscript is recommended to be around 3,000 to 5,000 words in length. This should include an abstract of no more than 200 words and should be divided into numbered sections. The length indicated does not include the title, affiliations and references.

Original research articles contain original scientific work that has not been published previously. Authors should include a brief discussion in the Introduction that sets the context for the novel work and gives their motivation for carrying out the study.

All contributions will be judged on the following criteria:

1. Novelty and insight

2. Quality of scientific work and content

3. Clarity of objectives and aims of the work

4. Appropriateness of length to content of new science

Research article is recommended to be 8,000 to 10,000 words in length. This should include an abstract of no more than 200 words and should be divided into numbered sections. The length indicated does not include the title, affiliations and references.

Review article

Usually solicited by the Editors, and it is strongly suggested that the Editor-in-Chief be contacted before such an article is submitted.

Reviews should bring the reader up-to-date with research in a particular field, highlighting areas of special excitement and progress.

The article should aim to provide an authoritative in-depth discussion of current progress and problems and should not consist of a laborious account of every paper in the area. Neither should the author concern themselves with providing a comprehensive list of references; those of particular interest and significance are all that are required.

Reviews must be high quality, authoritative, state-of-the-art accounts of the selected research field. Reviews should be timely and add to the existing literature, rather than duplicate existing articles, and should be of general interest to the journal's wide readership.

All Reviews undergo a rigorous and full peer review procedure, in the same way as regular research papers. The article should be formatted as is a Research Paper but contains a list of contents immediately after the abstract.
